This is one of the best parts about driving around our country. The amazing things that you find. We start heading toward Idaho, but we found a really cool monument, its located in Quincy ,WA its part of the Snoqualmie National Park. It is called the Wild Horse Monument. It was started in 1989 to celebrate the Centennial celebration for Washington. But it was never completed due to lack of funds. 15 life size horses that were installed is a beautiful site.
After that we get into Idaho, and again found another treasure. The oldest building in Idaho, the Cataldo Mission. It was constructed in 1850-1853 by members of the Coeur d’Alene Tribe and Catholic Missionaries. Cataldo Mission stands as a living landmark on a hill about 25 miles east of Coeur d’Alene.
You can see the construction of the building up close. They provide self guided tours, you can see exhibition of the Sacred Encounters: Father DeSmet and the Indians of the Rocky Mountain West.
It was a beautiful place, if you are even close to this area. It is a must see!!
And next we came to a sweet town, Wallace Idaho. We had decided to stop and have lunch, once we pulled off the highway we saw how cute this little town was. So we decided to take some time and walk around. And we are so glad that we did. It is an old mining town, they still have mines open for you to tour.
The photos do not do the town justice on how cute it is! With the mountains right behind and all of the trees in town. They do a great job of making the town warm and welcoming.
Wallace was founded in 1884, it is also known as Silver Valley. Since 1884, they have produced about 1.2 billion ounces of silver from the mines.
They have marker for the Center of the Universe, It is located in the center of the road.
In 1996, Wallace was the location for the movie Dante’s Peak!!
As we continued on down the 90 we kept seeing these billboards for the a place that has 50,000 Silver Dollars. Well we were curious about this place.
You can purchase a silver dollar and it will be added to the wall. They also have a bar, restaurant and shop with souvenirs, and of course these cute cowboys!!
Lincoln Silver Dollar is located off the 90 in Haugan, Montana.
We had the best time just stopping at these places for a short break and explore more. More history that we learn from each of these places.
