We made it!! We stayed at a cute RV park, Jim and Marys RV Park. It was so pretty, they go out of the way to make you feel at home. And the grounds are beautiful. They have flowers, trees and so much more. We caught in a show they had one night, a couple of locals can out and sang, and then we topped it off with Huckleberry Ice Cream. That was yummy stuff!!
In Missoula they have the a training center for US Forest ServiceHot Shots, that of course was on list of stops! It was a very cool tour of the facility, we got to go into the parachute loft, and see the locker room of course. What I found to be interesting is the stuff they have on them as they jump from the plane.
This place is amazing, the picture above is where the fold the parachutes, and made any small repairs.
This is some of the Air Cargo that they will usually have in the packs. Remember that they carry everything on they that will be needed for a few days on their person. They jump from a plane into the Fire!!!
These will be dropped from the plane as well, these have the tools and more supplies that they will need.
This is a Log Cabin that they relocated, it was used as a look out station. These types of lookouts are usually up on top of a remote mountain.
It was very primitive living while on the mountain.
This is in the loft, this is where they have some of the tools they need. The large round instrument is called an Alidade, it is a combination on a compass and map on a special mount.
This was a great day, you learn a lot about what this job entails. I have always had respect for the people that did this, but after this tour I found that I respected them even more.
